In recent years, snapping photos with mobile devices and posting them on social media is the new norm. Accurate Reviews has curated a list of free apps for 3D photography. The list below includes the most popular applications to take photos in 3D easily and in a fun way.
Fyuse
Fyuse is a free “spatial” photography application that allows smartphone users to capture 3D photos and share them with other users within the app. To take a 3D photo, the user walks around the object, model or scene he wants to capture. The app takes a short video and turns it into an immersive 3D photo. Fyuse also offers an integration with iMessage to send images directly to your contacts. This photo app has gathered over 15 million users in recent years and has attracted a huge following in 2019. Compatible with Android and iPhone devices.
PopPic
PopPic is a camera application for capturing 3D photos quickly and easily. Unlike Fyuse, the user does not need to move the camera around the object: the app uses the dual camera available on some devices to acquire images from two points of view. This application is currently only available on the latest generation iPhone devices equipped with dual cameras. It uses stereo view techniques to reconstruct a 3D representation of the scene from these images. When pointing the camera, PopPic centers its view on the scene based on the orientation of the phone. This 3D photo app also has filters available. Upon creating these images, the user has the option to save on their photo gallery or share them directly on Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat.
OmniVirt
The free 3D photo creation tool called OmniVirt transforms 2D photos into 3D. Users upload their own depth map and use the AI of this program to generate a 3D photo. After generating the 3D photo, the user can save it and upload it to Facebook using the 3D photo uploader. This is the only app that allows users to download content and share it on Facebook as an interactive 3D photo. This app was used for the advertising campaign for the horror movie Pet Semataryproduced by Paramaunt.
3D CAMERA
If you are fascinated by stereo photography and would like to experiment with it, try 3D Camera app. Available for Apple iOS and Android devices, the ‘Lite’ version is free and walks you through the process of taking a set of stereoscopic images, aligning and displaying them. Android users will find a number of 3D camera apps to try in the Google Play Store. The 3D process is simple: take one shot, move the phone to the right and take another (the first one gets superimposed); align the two images on the screen with the help of a “magnifying glass”. You are then presented with various options for viewing, using the glasses icon with colored lenses, a stereoscopic viewer or an animated “wigglegram”. If you want to create professional 3D photos instead, the full version of the app adds useful features.
