Amazon unveiled the new Skype and Google Hangouts competitor: Amazon Chime is the new video calls tool designed for business users. In addition to VoIP and video messaging calls, Chime provides the possibility of video conferences, allowing users also to host people or to take part in virtual meetings.
Amazon Chime pricing tiers start from just $ 2.50/user per month in the lower range, while the high-end subscriptions are of up to $ 15/user per month including specific features such as screen sharing.
A free plan is available, but it only offers video calls and chats between up to two users: it’s not so charming compared to Skype’s offering.
Why jump into an already pretty crowded market? Gene Farrell from Amazon Web Services explains:
It’s pretty hard to find people who actually like the technology they use for meetings today. Most meeting applications or services are hard to use, deliver bad audio and video, require constant switching between multiple tools to do everything they want and are way too expensive.
