If in the late afternoon of February 28th some of your favorite sites have had some delays or malfunctions, there is a man that you can complain to: he’s Jef Bezos and is the CEO of the company with the name of a famous river.
Ok, enough with the jokes (‘cause of course it’s not the fault of Bezos or Amazon: they didn’t do it on purpose): one of the oldest S3 server farm, a facility for Amazon’s cloud hosting services, had a malfunction for several hours yesterday , dragging different services and popular sites. Slack, Trello, Imgur, Airbnb, Lifehacker and all its affiliated sites – not to mention Amazon’s own sites and services, as Prime Now, Prime Video, Amazon Echo and the Kindle infrastructure.
It seems that the problem was solved just before two pm, Pacific Time. Luckily it was a malfunction and nothing more serious, such a coordinated attack like the one last year actually put half the Internet out of service.
For those who want to see it as a karmic revenge, however, think about this: those who usually check the popular “Is it down right now“, yesterday… they found it down.
