Google has officially launched another “lite” application, called Gallery Go. This photo app offers many of the best Google Photos features but tightly packed in a smaller package and designed with rising markets in mind, with a focus on offline use. This software was announced at the Google event for Nigeria.
The app is designed to integrate to the Android Go platform, which is an ultra-light operating system designed for affordable devices intended for rising or growing markets. Weighing just 10 MB, it still manages to include many of the familiar Google Photos features, including automatic photo organization, editing tools, and even auto enhanced photos. It makes all this possible thanks to an exponentially smaller file size than Google Photos. This app is primarily aimed at first-time smartphone users who don’t have access to high-speed internet connection or a desktop backup solution. Another great feature is that Gallery Go also works with micro SD cards, commonly used on affordable devices. It is now available through the Play Store and will be made available as the default gallery app on certain devices starting next month.
