Ransomware are computer virus capable taking our computer hostage, encrypting our files and to use them again we have to pay a ransom (in euros, dollars or bitcoin). Unfortunately, we can’t take for granted that the hacker will release our files: sometimes they will be destroyed anyway. Ransomware threat is growing stronger: there is a new variant being born every day, and they’re all tough to detect and even nastier. Take PopCornTime for example: if we can’t pay the ransom, we can save our system by sharing the virus to at least two friends.
But rejoice: alongside new threats, there are also new solutions coming. RansomFree is a new tool developed by Cybereason to help us blocking a ransomware attack before it could encrypt our data. This anti-ransomware, instead of looking new process, take into account already-running processes and gives an alert when finding something odd. This kind of approach is useful in finding out even the most recent ransomware.
RansomFree task is to beat the threat before it could manifest, freely. It’s a Windows-only software, brand new and thus it may be inaccurate at times: please don’t throw away your antivirus, use them both. First tests against the usual ransomware show that RansomFree is pretty good. We tested it: take a look at our review.
