I have used CleanMail for quite some time now, but in the past few months it has failed to run as it should. I spent a full month trying to work out why it is failing but had no answers after trying numeruos changes to Firewalls, Anti-Virus and Administrative permissions.
Finally I decided I would Uninstall my Favourite Anti-Virus Malwarebytes, Manually clean the Registry of ALL Malwarebytes & CleanMail (Byteplant) entries and run a Registry Cleaner to mop up any residual entries. I then rebooted and installed CleanMail and configured pointing to my Linux Mail Server, and it ALL WORKED as it should without hesitation. There is only 2 Email Accounts on this Server for my Domain, yet 150 Email attempts were recorded in one day, of which only 2 were good Emails, the Rest SCAM/SPAM attempts.
I decided to run with just Microsoft Anti-Virus & Firewall for a few days and monitor the CleanMail Service. NO Issues were encounted, so I decided to re-install my Favourite Malwarebyte Anti-Virus and nothing has changed, CleanMail has now been running for a week without a hickup. I can only assume that over the years of updates to Malwarebytes something has corrupted to where even entries into the ‘Allow List’ failed.
it is Important to Understand that the Resourses and Energy used to process this Garbage is enourmous, take for example a Business with 20, 50 or 100 employees, as staff leave and new employees arrive these email keep coming even though those that left accounts have been removed, the Mail server still has to process this rubish. They will continue after you leave and even after you have long passed away, continually growing over the years for that Domain.
