Windows 10 was the bearer of numerous controversies: the last concerns the forced placement of advertising into the operating system. For the time being, there are some “advertising tips” shown on the lock screen and the Start menu, but there are additional entries in Files Explorer, for example. When you navigate among your files, you may find some ads: it’s downright annoying. Although initially proposed as a free upgrade, this kind of invasive advertising is deteriorating Windows 10’s prestige in the eye of its users.
It is unclear whether the “suggestions” will be shown on all PC Windows 10 or only on Insider release, but in any case, there are several ways to block ads displayed.
Eliminate advertising on the Windows lock screen 10
Go to All Settings > Personalize > Lock screen and disable the View information, tips, and more on the lock screen.
How to block most of the advertising on Windows 10
A more radical move is to block most of the advertising on Windows 10 – not all, of course – by downloading this file that you can open in any text editor to check your pattern. First, make a backup of the Windows registry, just in case (and a system backup as well, please). Double click this file after downloading, accept the terms of use and confirm the message of warning about the Registry editor.
Then you will have blocked:
- advertisements on Files Explorer
- suggestions Start Menu
- suggestions on the Game Bar;
- the lock screen (if you want)
- Cortana (at your discretion)
